BSU Hosts Seminar on "Creating an Intelligent Irrigation Technology"
Baku State University (BSU) recently hosted a scientific seminar on the project "Creating an Intelligent Irrigation Technology (SmAgTech)", led by Sara Rahimzade, a lecturer in the university’s Physics Department. The project was a winner in the 5th Grant Competition organized by the Small and Medium Business Agency.
Professor Mais Suleymanov, Head of BSU’s Scientific Activity and Innovation Center, highlighted the global significance of intelligent irrigation technologies, particularly for Azerbaijan. He noted that water scarcity is a pressing issue worldwide and was a key topic of discussion at COP29 in Baku. Given that Azerbaijan is classified as a high-risk country for drought, he emphasized the necessity of supporting such initiatives.
Dean of the Physics Department, Bakhtiyar Pashayev, underscored the project’s importance and encouraged young researchers to engage in innovative solutions.
Following this, a video presentation showcased the project's objectives and potential impact.
Sara Rahimzade explained that SmAgTech aims to develop a cost-effective and high-quality irrigation system while exploring its practical applications. The technology is designed to minimize water loss and optimize resource management by supplying plants with the exact amount of water they require. The system also facilitates remote monitoring of agricultural land, fields, and greenhouses via a mobile application, allowing real-time tracking of key parameters such as soil moisture, temperature, and salinity levels. Additionally, the system enables automated fertilization and features a specialized sound mechanism to deter pests from cultivated areas.
The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session and discussions among participants.
