BSU Hosts Seminar on Crystals and Tessellation Art
A scientific seminar titled “Crystals, Quasicrystals, and Patterns Without a Background” was held at the Physics Department of Baku State University (BSU) as part of events dedicated to March 27 – Science Day.
Azerbaijan State Prize laureate Professor Imamaddin Amiraslanov delivered a presentation examining the relationship between symmetry laws, tessellation art, and traditional folk applied art. His research in this field is reflected in internationally recognized books and numerous scientific publications.
The presentation explored the classification of geometric ornaments widely found in Azerbaijan and neighboring regions, highlighting their similarities to crystalline structures, historical origins, and geographic spread. The speaker also discussed the concept of backgroundless patterns, the features of tessellation art, and the interaction between religion and art through historical examples.
Mosaic works created by the author were showcased during the seminar.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
