BSU Hosts Seminar on Journalism Education in USA and Azerbaijan
Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University (BSU) recently held a scientific seminar titled "Journalism Education in the USA and Azerbaijan," led by Anzulya Jafarova, a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism.
Khatira Huseynova, the Head of the Department, shared that Jafarova had participated in the "SUSI for Scholars" academic research program in the USA. The seminar focused on a comparative analysis of journalism education models at Arizona State University and those used in Azerbaijan.
In her presentation, Jafarova highlighted global innovations in journalism education, paying particular attention to the "Teaching Hospital" model employed at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She explained that this model draws parallels between journalism and medical education, emphasizing the media’s significant impact on society. It also stresses the importance of students gaining practical, professional skills in the field. According to Jafarova, the model’s success stems from the collaboration between educators, students, and industry professionals.
Jafarova also praised the efforts made to implement this model within BSU’s Faculty of Journalism, noting the promising developments in journalism education at the university.
