BSU Hosts Seminar on Legal and Ethical Aspects of Organ Donation and Transplantation

The Faculty of Law at Baku State University (BSU) hosted a scientific and practical seminar titled "Organ Donation and Transplantation: Legal and Ethical Approaches."

The event brought together students from BSU and other universities, master’s students specializing in medical law, legal professionals, and faculty members.

Ramin Samedov, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Issues and Youth Policy at BSU, provided an overview of the history of organ donation and transplantation in Azerbaijan, highlighting state initiatives in this field. Associate Professor Esmer Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Civil Procedure and Commercial Law, outlined various educational and outreach activities, including training programs, seminars, social platform initiatives, and competitions organized in collaboration with "BSU Volunteers." She emphasized that these efforts contribute to the advancement of legal science and education.

Legal experts Ruslan Veliyev and Narmin Adygozelzade delivered presentations on key topics, including the legal regulation of organ donation and transplantation, ethical considerations, medical foundations, and criminal liability in the field. Participants were also informed about voluntary organ donation principles, the protection of donor and recipient rights, adherence to ethical transplantation standards, and the relevant legal frameworks in Azerbaijan, supported by international case studies.

Yegana Abbasova, Chairperson of the Board of the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation under the Ministry of Health, emphasized the significance of organ donation and the need for increased public awareness on the subject.

The seminar provided a platform for insightful discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the legal and ethical dimensions of organ donation and transplantation.
