BSU Hosts Seminar on Seismic Risks in the Absheron Peninsula
A scientific seminar entitled “The Impact of Engineering-Geological Conditions on the Seismicity of the Absheron Peninsula (Using the Narimanov District as an Example)” was held at the Department of Geology of Baku State University (BSU) as part of events dedicated to Science Day on March 27.
The seminar emphasized the increasing importance of engineering-geological and seismic research, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas. The report was presented by Ilhama Jalilov, a part-time doctoral student of the Department of Seismology and Subsurface Physics, and was based on field studies, laboratory analyses, and a review of scientific literature.
The presentation examined the geological structure of the Absheron Peninsula, tectonic fault zones, and factors influencing seismic wave intensity. The importance of sustainable urban planning, updated seismic zoning, and strict adherence to construction standards was highlighted as essential for reducing seismic risks and ensuring public safety.
