BSU Hosts Seminar on University Libraries in the Digital Age
Baku State University (BSU) held a seminar titled “University Libraries in the Digital Age: International Resources and Repositories,” focusing on the methodological activities of the BSU Scientific Library and the annual report of the Azerbaijan Library and Information Consortium (Az.KIK).
Opening the seminar, Mais Suleymanov, Director of the BSU Center for Organization of Scientific Activity and Innovations, highlighted the vital role of databases in modern science and education, the importance of accessibility, and the contribution of repositories to advancing research potential.
Nigar Ismayilova, Director of the BSU Scientific Library, presented a report entitled “Corporate Subscription in the Availability of Electronic Resources: Problems and Solutions.” She discussed methods for obtaining corporate subscriptions, their benefits, types of membership and payment models, and shared examples from BSU’s own subscription practices and initiatives to expand access to digital resources.
Jamila Yusifova, Head of the Methodological Work and Cooperation Department of the Scientific Library, National Coordinator of EIFL.net, and EBSCO Representative in Azerbaijan, delivered a presentation on “International Scientific Platforms and Innovative Services of Az.KIK.” She informed participants about Az.KIK’s cooperation with the international consortium EIFL.net, its programs, services for members, and efforts to ensure access to EBSCO platforms, including EBSCO EDS (Electronic Discovery Service) and EBSCO AI Insights.
Adilya Abdullayeva, Director of the Library and Information Center of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics, discussed the inclusion of scientific journals in the EBSCO database and addressed copyright issues.
Aytac Misgerli, Deputy Director of the Library and Information Center of Khazar University, presented on international projects involving her institution. She highlighted collaboration on a project aimed at creating institutional repositories to enhance research capacity, which includes libraries from three European countries and eight Azerbaijani universities.
Representatives from regional universities—including Nakhchivan State University, Lankaran State University, Mingachevir State University, and Ganja State Agrarian University—also participated in the seminar online.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where participants exchanged views and discussed future cooperation opportunities.
