A scientific seminar was held at the History Faculty of Baku State University (BSU) focusing on the historical and demographic ideas of prominent scholar Vasily Bartold, presented at the First Turkological Congress.

Speakers highlighted the significance of the 1926 congress in Baku as a key milestone in the cultural integration of Turkic peoples, also recognized in a presidential decree by Ilham Aliyev marking its 100th anniversary.

The seminar noted Bartold’s major contributions to the study of the Caucasus, Azerbaijan, and Turkic history, including his lectures at BSU in the 1920s and his influential publications. Particular attention was given to his analysis of population growth and settlement patterns, linking them to geographic, economic, and political factors.

Participants emphasized the lasting scientific value of Bartold’s work and its importance as a methodological foundation for modern research in historical demography.
