BSU Hosts Seminar on “Western Azerbaijan: Real History and Armenian Falsifications”
Baku State University (BSU) hosted a scientific seminar titled “Western Azerbaijan: Real History and Armenian Falsifications.” The event addressed historical distortions and efforts to restore the truth about Western Azerbaijan.
Dean of the Faculty of History, Professor Ibrahim Zeynalov, emphasized the growing international focus on Western Azerbaijan and the national priority of ensuring the return of displaced Azerbaijanis. He introduced a joint project between BSU’s Faculty of History and the Western Azerbaijan Community, titled “Western Azerbaijan: Let’s Become the Masters of Our Native Lands.” The initiative includes seminars, conferences, and the documentation of renamed toponyms and destroyed cultural monuments to present their original Azerbaijani names to the world.
Dr. Guntekin Najafli, a leading researcher at the Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, discussed the systematic falsification of Western Azerbaijan’s history by Armenian sources, particularly since the 18th century. She highlighted the role of the Mkhitarist Order in producing and disseminating fabricated historical narratives under the guise of scholarly works.
The seminar featured archival evidence and emphasized the importance of promoting factual history at international forums. Speakers underlined that such initiatives are vital in exposing the historical injustices, deportations, and cultural destruction faced by Azerbaijanis.
