BSU Hosts Training on Modern Archaeological Methods
Baku State University (BSU), in partnership with the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS and Türkiye’s Aegean University, has held a training titled “Modern Approaches and Practical Applications in Archaeological Research.”
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev highlighted the importance of strengthening scientific capacity in archaeology, applying modern methods, and integrating international experience. He noted that BSU has established specialized research centers to support the development of this field.
Vice-Rector Alish Agamirzayev stated that the training is part of joint initiatives under an existing memorandum, aimed at introducing new technologies and fostering international cooperation.
Head of the Aegean University delegation, Zafer Derin, emphasized the importance of joint research and the exchange of expertise in the field of archaeology. He noted that presentations would cover archaeological excavations at the ancient Yeşilova and Yassıtepe sites in Türkiye, which date back approximately 8,500 years, as well as provide insights into archaeometric analysis and digital archaeology methods.
Researcher Mısra Yanık of Aegean University delivered a training session on the collection and analysis of zooarchaeological and archaeobotanical data, material analysis, and archaeometric techniques applied in the Yeşilova and Yassıtepe excavations. Another researcher, Özgen Çelik, conducted a session on laboratory practices, including the processing, documentation, and preservation of archaeological materials.
