BSU Hosts Training Session on Hydroponic Solutions at WUF13

As part of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), Baku State University organized a special training session titled “Green Homes, Green Balconies: Hydroponic Solutions for Climate-Resilient Cities.”

Opening the session, moderator Mirhuseyn Taghiyev spoke about the objectives of the event and the initiatives implemented by BSU within the framework of WUF13. He noted that the university is represented at the forum through the Clean Charge startup at the Business Innovation Hub, the WUF Academy training program, the panel discussion “Youth at the Core of Housing Solutions,” and an official exhibition stand.

During the session, project manager Gumru Huseynova, Head of the BSU Cell Culture and Genome Editing Laboratory, highlighted the importance of hydroponic systems for home and balcony use, organic food production, and the development of greener urban environments. She noted that the project aims to promote climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and healthy living environments through the use of small-scale hydroponic systems in urban households and balconies.

Ramil Azmamedov, CEO of Grand Agro Invitro LLC, delivered a presentation titled “Food Supply for Growing Cities: Artificial Intelligence, Water Efficiency, and the Future of Agriculture,” focusing on the application of modern technologies in agriculture and their role in strengthening urban food security.

During the event, Ilyas Nasibov, Director of the BSU Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity, presented information about startup projects, innovative initiatives, and efforts to support the scientific and technical creativity of university students. He also introduced the EcoEnergy Center project.

Nurlan Emrakhov, a research fellow at the Bioengineering Laboratory of the Faculty of Biology, delivered a presentation on “Hydroponic Systems for the Home: Design, Advantages, and Applications in Urban Life,” sharing insights into the design and practical use of hydroponic systems in everyday life.

Zerhanim Agayeva, a lecturer at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science at BSU, presented a paper titled “The Role of Biotechnology in Building Green Cities of the Future,” emphasizing the significance of biotechnology in sustainable urban development.
