BSU Hosts “WUF Model” Simulation Conference
A simulation conference titled “The WUF (World Urban Forum) Model” was held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of the forum “Azerbaijani Youth: The Foundation of a Strong State.” The event focused on the theme “The Role of Youth in Building Inclusive, Safe, and Sustainable Cities.”
Dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Youth Day, the conference was jointly organized by BSU, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and The Eurasian Regional Center of Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF-ERC).
In his address, BSU Vice-Rector Shahin Panahov emphasized that urban development policy should be based on the integration of science, technology, and the human factor. He highlighted the importance of youth participation in achieving sustainable development and noted BSU’s role in training innovative specialists in urban planning and architecture.
BSU Protocol Officer Mirguseyin Tagiev stated that declaring 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” will encourage modern and sustainable approaches, enhance urban living standards, and promote youth involvement in decision-making processes.
Abdinnasir Sagar, Coordinator of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), shared insights into global urbanization trends, rapid migration to cities, and related socio-environmental challenges. He stressed the need for inclusive, safe, and sustainable urban policies and expressed confidence in the success of WUF13, which will be held in Azerbaijan in 2026.
Deputy Director General of ICYF-ERC Ramin Habibzade highlighted the importance of international platforms, training programs, and simulations in developing young people’s professional skills and strengthening their engagement in global dialogue.
During the conference, participants presented the positions of the countries they represented. At the conclusion of the event, outstanding young participants were awarded certificates.
