According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, Baku State University (BSU) is ranked as the leading university in Azerbaijan.

THE, one of the most influential ranking organizations globally, has released its list of the world’s top universities for 2025. BSU is featured in the 1501+ category among 2092 universities worldwide, ranking first among the two Azerbaijani institutions included in the list.

Notably, BSU is the only university in Azerbaijan listed in the "Subject Rankings" for physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, mathematics, and more) and engineering sciences (such as chemical, geological, hydrogeological, and geophysical engineering).

Universities in THE rankings are evaluated based on several factors, including teaching quality, research output, citation impact, international reputation, and industry income.

Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University is the second institution from Azerbaijan to be included in THE World University Rankings.
