16/04/2025

Baku State University (BSU) has officially joined the Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE), marking a significant step in its ongoing commitment to global climate action and sustainable development.

CANIE is a leading non-profit network that brings together institutions and professionals in international education to address the challenges of climate change. The network’s mission is to empower the higher education and academic mobility sectors to take meaningful action against climate change by developing and implementing practical, sustainable solutions. Its recognition by the QS Sustainability Ranking highlights its growing influence on environmental efforts within the academic world.

As a new member of CANIE, BSU will focus on several key areas: reducing its carbon footprint, enhancing environmental education and awareness initiatives, advancing green campus strategies, and promoting sustainable, eco-conscious models of academic mobility. This aligns seamlessly with BSU’s existing environmental initiatives, including the successful ECOLEAD project and the university’s Green University concept.

By joining CANIE, BSU not only reinforces its leadership role in sustainable development but also becomes the first university in Azerbaijan to be part of this influential global network — a milestone that underscores the institution’s proactive stance on environmental responsibility in higher education.
