12/01/2026

Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, Baku State University (BSU) has launched the “Agricultural Insurance” course at the master’s level at the Faculty of Biology.

The course covers the risks posed to agricultural land by natural phenomena and other factors, methods for assessing these risks, the investigation of insurance claims, and approaches to calculating losses. Accurate damage assessment plays a key role in the agricultural insurance system, as insurance compensation to affected farms is determined based on these calculations.

During an open class, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Professor Afet Mamedova, highlighted the impact of global climate change on the environment and the agricultural sector, emphasizing the importance of precise risk assessment for sustainable agricultural development. She noted that the course contributes to expanding students’ professional competencies and supports the practical application of their knowledge.

The course is taught by renowned insurance expert Zulfu Mamedov, who provided insights into the practical mechanisms, advantages, and significance of agricultural insurance. He noted that climate change has led to an increase in natural disasters, making accurate assessment of damage to crops and cultivated land particularly important.

As part of the open class, student Aysun Esedli delivered a presentation titled “Methodology for Determining Productivity.”

BSU plans to introduce the “Agricultural Insurance” course at the undergraduate level in the future.
