BSU Marks 120th Anniversary of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev with Scientific Seminar
A scientific seminar marking the 120th anniversary of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev was held at the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry at Baku State University (BSU).
Opening the event, Head of the Department Professor Famil Chiragov spoke about the distinguished scientist’s invaluable contribution to global science. He noted that Yusif Mammadaliyev—recognized as one of the most prominent chemists of the 20th century—played a key role in introducing Azerbaijani scientific achievements to the international arena through his pioneering research on high-octane gasoline production, petrochemical processes, catalysis, and organic synthesis. The scientific school established by Mammadaliyev significantly influenced the development of chemical research at BSU, a tradition that continues to this day.
Deputy Dean of the Faculty Taleh Gakhramanov highlighted Mammadaliyev’s scientific principles, personal qualities, and patriotic service. He emphasized that the academician’s commitment to educating young researchers remains an important source of inspiration for today’s students.
A documentary film about the life and scientific heritage of Yusif Mammadaliyev was screened during the seminar.
In the academic section of the event, Master’s student Sevil Maksudova delivered a presentation on the photometric determination of Mo(IV) using azo compounds.
