BSU Marks 85th Anniversary of Associate Professor Asmetkhanym Mamedova

The Faculty of Oriental Studies at Baku State University (BSU) held an event titled “The Path to Success of an Oriental Woman,” dedicated to the 85th birthday of Associate Professor Asmetkhanym Mamedova, Head of the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Literature.

Dean Aydan Khandan noted that Mamedova, a distinguished orientalist, has devoted decades to scholarship and the education of younger generations. She entered BSU in 1960 and began her academic career in 1965. After postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and an internship at Leningrad State University, she has continued her teaching and research activities at BSU since 1969, defending her PhD in 1972.

Mamedova is the author of about 200 scholarly articles and has translated more than ten works of modern Persian prose into Azerbaijani. She also served as a member of the Milli Majlis from 1995 to 2005 and has received several honors, including the “Advanced Education Worker” badge, the 3rd-degree “Emek” Order, and the “100th Anniversary of BSU (1919–2019)” commemorative medal.

Speakers highlighted her significant academic and pedagogical contributions. The event concluded with a video presentation about her life and work.
