As part of the events dedicated to Science Day on March 27, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Baku State University (BSU) organized a master class titled “The Development of Turkology in Light of the 100th Anniversary Congress.” The session was conducted by Professor Tofig Melikli, a distinguished graduate of the faculty.
Deputy Dean Nigar Ismailzade opened the event with remarks on Professor Melikli’s academic career and contributions to the field.
During the master class, Professor Melikli analyzed the historical significance of the First Turkological Congress for the Turkic world and highlighted its impact on the formation of modern Turkology. He addressed key topics discussed at the congress, including the unified alphabet, linguistic unity, terminology, and national and cultural identity. Emphasizing the enduring relevance of this scientific legacy, the professor noted that today Turkology is regarded not only as a philological discipline, but also as an important sphere of intercultural dialogue, diplomacy, and regional cooperation.
