BSU Rector Addresses UN International Space Weather Initiative Program Meeting
The annual meeting of the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) program management team took place in Vienna, Austria, as part of the 62nd session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).
The main objective of the event was to strengthen cooperation in the installation of devices and instruments related to space utilization, as well as to promote personnel training. During the meeting, national coordinators of the ISWI program presented their reports and explored integration opportunities.
Elchin Babayev, Rector of Baku State University (BSU) and national coordinator for Azerbaijan, delivered a report on "Azerbaijan's Activities in the Field of Space Weather," outlining the country’s progress and goals in this domain. In his speech, Babayev highlighted Azerbaijan's strategic initiatives in space research, the nation's scientific potential, and its growing international reputation.
Elchin Babayev emphasized BSU's commitment to establishing stronger international cooperation in space weather research and implementing world-class projects. He noted that efforts would continue to expand the university's partnerships with international organizations, install and operate relevant devices and equipment, and integrate them into global databases.
The meeting also featured discussions on joint projects in space exploration and space weather, scientific information exchange, and the identification of new research areas.
