BSU Rector Speaks at Society of Azerbaijani Scientists Meeting in Istanbul
The inaugural general meeting of the Society of Azerbaijani Scientists (ABID) in Türkiye took place in Istanbul, organized by the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Work with Diaspora, the Federation of Turkish-Azerbaijani Societies (TADEF), and ABID.
The event brought together notable participants, including Valeh Hajiyev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora; Nadjiba Nasibova, Education Advisor at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Türkiye; Shamil Ayrim, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye; Adalat Turan, Head of TADEF; and rectors from leading Azerbaijani universities: Elchin Babayev of Baku State University (BSU), Vilayat Veliyev of Azerbaijan Technical University, Gulchohra Mammadova of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Jafar Jafarov of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. ABID Chairman and Bilkent University Professor Amirullah Mammadov also attended, along with other distinguished guests.
In his speech, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev highlighted the significance of ABID's establishment, emphasizing its role in fostering individual and collective achievements, strengthening scientific collaborations, and advancing national goals. He remarked:
"The establishment of ABID is a vital initiative that serves science, education, and our national unity. Through this platform, we aim to elevate Azerbaijan-Türkiye cooperation in science and education to new heights. BSU is committed to supporting initiatives that promote the development of science, education, and innovation."
Rector Babayev also reflected on BSU’s contributions to science and education over its 105-year history, noting how its traditional achievements are now complemented by innovative approaches. He highlighted the university's specialized research centers, such as the Center for Excellence in Research, Development, and Innovation, and the Center for Student Scientific and Technical Creativity. These initiatives, aimed at applying scientific research to practical production and societal needs, have significantly contributed to BSU's advancement in global rankings, placing it among the world’s top 1,000 universities.
The rector invited Azerbaijani diaspora scientists to collaborate closely with BSU, stressing that such partnerships would enhance the scientific and intellectual potential of both Azerbaijan and Turkey. He also proposed several initiatives to support ABID’s activities, reinforcing the importance of collective effort in achieving shared goals.
