BSU Rises to 565th Place in QS World University Rankings 2027

Baku State University (BSU) has been ranked 565th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The university climbed 123 positions compared to last year, becoming the highest-ranked university in Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 evaluated 8,808 universities from 106 countries, with 1,504 institutions included in the final ranking.

BSU also improved its position in the QS Europe Rankings 2026, rising 58 places to rank 278th in Europe.

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, BSU was included for the first time in two broad subject areas and was ranked in eight narrow subject areas. The university placed in the 401–500 band for Natural Sciences and 501–550 for Engineering and Technology.

In individual disciplines, BSU ranked 51–100 in Petroleum Engineering, 151–200 in Modern Languages, 251–300 in Mathematics, 301–350 in Law, 401–450 in Chemical Engineering and in Physics & Astronomy, 451–500 in Chemistry, and 601–650 in Computer Science & Information Systems. With these results, BSU became the Azerbaijani university represented in the largest number of subject areas in the QS rankings.

The university has already achieved the national target set out in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026, which aims for at least three Azerbaijani universities to be ranked among the world's top 800 higher education institutions.
