BSU Strengthens Cooperation with Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition
Baku State University (BSU) leadership recently held a meeting with representatives of the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) to explore collaborative opportunities ahead of the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29).
During the meeting, both sides discussed joint research on critical global challenges, including climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Plans were outlined for co-authoring scientific articles and presenting their findings at international forums. Additionally, the two parties explored the possibility of providing grants to BSU students and researchers, integrating them into global research initiatives.
BSU and BRIGC committed to strengthening their partnership by developing joint proposals to address global environmental challenges and to exchange expertise at COP29.
A key point of discussion was BSU's upcoming ECO Park project, with a focus on collaboration in green technologies, environmental education, and sustainable development. BRIGC representatives expressed interest in holding joint seminars on environmental education and ecosystem protection, as well as organizing specialized training for students and young researchers at the ECO Park.
The BRI International Green Development Coalition (abbreviated as BRIGC) is jointly initiated by Ministry of Ecology and Environment of P.R.China (abbreviated as MEE) and international partners. The substantial ever growing needs on implementing UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (abbreviated as SDGs) and similarly the need to make progress towards the Paris Agreement targets for the Belt and Road Initiative (abbreviated as BRI) participating countries require governments, local and international development agencies, think tanks, private sectors, civil societies and other stakeholders to work together to maximize the effort on the green development.
The main goal of BRIGC is to promote international consensus understanding, cooperation and concerted actions to achieve green development of BRI, to integrate sustainable development into the BRI through joint efforts, and to facilitate BRI participating countries to implement strong integration of environment and development elements of the SDGs.
