BSU student won WORLD GAMES 2022 championship, defeated Armenian athlete with score 11:0
Ilkin Ganbarli, a second-year student of the Geology Faculty of Baku State University (BSU), won the WORLD GAMES 2022 championship in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan.
On the first day of the competitions in Greco-Roman wrestling, Ganbarli (55 kg) defeated the Frenchman with a score of 4:3 and advanced to the 1/16 finals. At this stage, he was stronger than the American with a score of 2:1. In the 1/8 finals, Ganbarli defeated the Brazilian with a score of 8:0 and advanced to the 1/4 finals. In the quarterfinals, he defeated the Chinese wrestler 7:0. In the qualifying round, Ganbarli defeated the 3-time champion with a score 8:3 and advanced to the semi-finals.
In the semifinal match, our wrestler nicknamed "Terminator" defeated his Argentine opponent with a score of 9: 5 and advanced to the final stage.
In the final match, our student defeated the Armenian wrestler Varsham Boranyan with a score of 11: 0 and became the winner of the competition.
This is not the first victory of I.Ganbarli over an Armenian sportsman. He also became the winner of the international tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling, held February 13-15 last year in Paris. In that tournament, he defeated the Armenian opponent Mihran Nazaryan in the final. I.Ganbarli is also a 5-time Azerbaijani champion and the winner of a number of international tournaments.
