BSU Students Complete Internship at the Vegetable Research Institute
Students from the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU) are continuing their internship at the Vegetable Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The internship began with an introductory tour of the institute’s departments and laboratories. At the Department of Agrotechnology, students gained practical knowledge of soil selection and preparation for sowing, as well as sowing, planting, and general agricultural practices. At the Department of Breeding, they studied the selection of seed material and the development of new varieties and hybrids, while the Department of Seed Production focused on the primary production of local and registered seed varieties.
In the Functional Analysis Laboratory, students studied fertilizer application regimes, plant physiological parameters, and conducted analyses of soil, plants, and water, including the determination of agrochemical residues. In the Processing, Storage, and Quality Control Laboratory, modern methods of processing, drying, and preserving agricultural products were demonstrated.
In the Plant Protection Laboratory, students were introduced to agronomic, physical, chemical, and biological methods of pest control. At the Agrobiotechnology Laboratory, they learned about potato micropropagation using the apical meristem method and the production of disease-free planting material.
