BSU Students Explore Modern Technologies in Geological Sciences

23/05/2025

A training session focused on the role of modern technologies—particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS)—in advancing geological sciences was held at Baku State University (BSU).

The event brought together faculty and students from the Faculties of Geology and Geography, along with representatives from AzerGold CJSC, including Fuad Huseynov, Head of the Geological Exploration Department; Alesker Mammadov, Head of Sector; and other professionals from the institution.

Alesker Mammadov delivered a presentation titled “Application of Mining and Geological Information Systems in Geological Exploration.” He highlighted various projects implemented as part of AzerGold’s geological exploration strategy, demonstrating the use of GIS technologies in processing field data, constructing 3D models, conducting predictive analysis, and supporting operational decision-making. The practical use of GIS in the study of both ore and non-ore deposits across Azerbaijan was also discussed.

The session further elaborated on how GIS technologies enhance geological exploration through efficient data collection, visualization, analysis, and interpretation. Emphasis was placed on the significant contributions of these systems to accurate geological modeling, resource evaluation, and safe, effective mining operations.
