BSU Studies Caspian Coastal Vegetation
A scientific seminar titled “Natural Vegetation of the Caspian Coast: Classification, Mapping, and Phytocenological Features” was held at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University (BSU).
Humire Huseynova, a lecturer from the Department of Botany and Plant Physiology, presented the seminar, highlighting the rich biodiversity of the Caspian coastal vegetation. She discussed its classification, ecological characteristics, and the influence of climate, soil, and human activity.
The region's vegetation was divided into six main ecological zones—forest, shrub, semi-desert, desert, coastal-sandy desert, and wetland. In total, researchers identified 25 formation classes, 125 formation groups, and 179 associations.
The seminar also showcased ecological mapping using GIS technologies, including detailed 1:200,000 scale maps. These findings provide a scientific foundation for biodiversity conservation, environmental monitoring, and sustainable resource management.
