BSU to Launch Master's Specialization in Geoecology
Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, Baku State University (BSU) will introduce a new master's specialization in Geoecology at its Faculty of Geology.
The primary objective of the new specialization is to provide students with a solid theoretical foundation in the ecological characteristics of the geological environment, the structure and functioning of natural ecosystems, and the principles of sustainable geosystem development. The program is also designed to prepare highly qualified professionals capable of assessing environmental conditions using modern research methods and developing science-based, practical solutions to environmental challenges.
The curriculum includes courses such as Research Methodology, Academic Writing and Scientific Communication, General Geoecology, Fundamentals of Lithosphere Geoecology, Geoecological Assessment and Monitoring, Geoecological Conditions of Azerbaijan, Theoretical Foundations and Methodology of Geoecological Assessment, Geoecological Protection of Natural Resources, Geoecology of Geological Exploration and Prospecting, Geoecology and Natural Resource Management, Hydrogeoecology, Engineering Geoecology, Ecology and Environmental Management, Industrial Technosphere Safety, Environmental Management of Natural Resources, and Environmental Issues in Mineral Extraction.
Graduates of the Geoecology specialization will be qualified to work in structural divisions of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, geological and mineral exploration enterprises, environmental protection departments of SOCAR and other oil and gas companies, environmental consulting firms, environmental monitoring centers, research institutes, higher education institutions, as well as international environmental projects and non-governmental organizations.
