The latest guest of “Diplomacy Hour,” a project jointly organised by Baku State University (BSU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), BSU Volunteers and Diplomacy Volunteers, was Elman Abdullayev, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ramin Samadov, Head of BSU’s Department of Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Policy, highlighted the importance of the “Diplomacy Hour” initiative for students, noting that it enables them to gain a deeper understanding of diplomatic practice, broaden their knowledge of international relations and prepare for their future careers.

During the meeting, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev spoke in detail about initiatives aimed at promoting, protecting and raising international awareness of Azerbaijan’s rich historical and cultural heritage. He emphasised the importance of cooperation with UNESCO in advancing culture, education and science, fostering intercultural dialogue and strengthening Azerbaijan’s international standing.

ğAddressing the organisation’s key areas of activity, the ambassador also highlighted the role of public diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding between countries and societies.

“Inscribing examples of tangible and intangible heritage that form an integral part of Azerbaijani culture on the relevant UNESCO international lists is particularly important for promoting our national and cultural values globally. The international promotion of mugham, the art of Azerbaijani ashugs, carpet weaving, the art of kelaghayi making and other elements of our cultural heritage helps raise awareness of Azerbaijan’s rich cultural traditions, safeguard them and pass them on to future generations. In this regard, expanding educational initiatives is essential, particularly by encouraging young people to take an active role in learning about our national heritage and presenting it to international audiences,” he noted.

The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which the ambassador responded to numerous questions from students.
