A delegation from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bulgaria paid an academic visit to the Faculty of Philology at Baku State University (BSU).

The delegation included Professor Milena Yordanova, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology and Professor of the Department of Turkic Languages and Altaic Studies; Professor Irina Saraivanova, Head of the same department; and Professor Lyudmila Ilieva. During their visit, the scholars held a meeting with the academic staff of BSU’s Faculty of Philology.

Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Associate Professor Elchin Mammadov, welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the faculty’s history, prominent scholars, academic programs, and research directions. He emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan as one of the major centers of Turkological studies in the Turkic world.

In turn, the Bulgarian scholars presented information about the academic and research activities carried out at the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology at Sofia University. They highlighted their ongoing work in the field of Turkology and shared insights into their scientific and pedagogical endeavors.

Faculty members from BSU discussed the current state of Turkological research in Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, including contemporary approaches to the teaching of Turkic languages and literatures. Particular attention was given to modern methodologies employed in language and literature instruction.

The meeting concluded with discussions on potential avenues for bilateral academic cooperation. The parties reached a preliminary agreement on organizing joint academic events in the future.
