Rovshan Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company, met with students of Baku State University (BSU) as part of a series of events aimed at connecting current students with distinguished alumni.

In his opening remarks, BSU Vice-Rector Alish Agamirzayev highlighted the importance of such meetings, emphasizing their role in students’ personal and professional development. “Over its 106-year history, BSU has made a significant contribution to the education of the nation, the development of national consciousness, and the training of highly qualified professionals,” he said. “Today, the university proudly counts more than 200,000 graduates. A university’s greatest asset is its alumni, scholars, and students—and BSU takes pride in all of them.”

Agamirzayev went on to note that Rovshan Mammadov, a graduate of BSU, has progressed from working as a presenter and correspondent to becoming the head of Azerbaijan State Television. “His professional journey serves as a powerful example for today’s students,” he added.

Taking the floor, Rovshan Mammadov shared his insights on the qualities required to succeed in journalism. He stressed the importance of continuous self-development and a strong reading habit, noting: “To be a good journalist, one must master our language to the highest degree. Today’s global media landscape also demands proficiency in foreign languages. As the media space becomes increasingly internationalized, journalists must be able to integrate into the global arena. This places a great responsibility on young professionals.”

The meeting concluded with a lively Q&A session, during which Mammadov answered students’ questions and offered further guidance.
