The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Lu Mei, has paid an official visit to Baku State University (BSU).

During her visit, Ambassador Lu Mei met with BSU Rector Elchin Babayev. The Rector spoke about the university’s rich history and its growing international partnerships, with a particular emphasis on collaboration with Chinese universities and research institutions. He highlighted that the friendly ties between Azerbaijan and China are also flourishing in the fields of science and education, noting the significant role played by the Confucius Institute at BSU in advancing this cooperation.

The meeting focused on expanding student and faculty exchange programs with Chinese universities, launching joint research initiatives, and enhancing cooperation in Chinese language and cultural studies. Rector Babayev expressed keen interest in establishing closer ties with leading universities in China.

Ambassador Lu Mei emphasized that educational and scientific collaboration contributes meaningfully to the broader strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China. She reaffirmed China’s readiness to support deeper integration in these areas.

The discussion also touched on President Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to China. It was noted that his meetings with Chinese Leader  Xi Jinping helped further solidify the strategic partnership between the two nations. Among the visit’s key priorities was the expansion of cooperation in science, education, and culture—areas where inter-university collaboration plays a particularly important role.
