30/01/2025

You Xin  is a PhD student in the Intergovernmental Scholarship Program at the Faculty of International Relations and Economics at Baku State University (BSU). Having previously earned a Master’s degree from BSU, You Xin  is now conducting research on International Relations between Azerbaijan and China. In addition to deepening his knowledge in this field, he also aims to contribute to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Reflecting on his time in Azerbaijan, You Xin emphasizes that his years at BSU have been invaluable in shaping his academic and personal growth:

Why did you decide to study in Azerbaijan?

During my studies in China, my university professors introduced me to the opportunity of studying in Azerbaijan. I learned about the Intergovernmental Scholarship Program and decided to apply. I was particularly drawn to Azerbaijan’s strong academic reputation in international relations, which made studying here even more appealing.

How do you remember your first years at BSU?

It was a period full of unforgettable moments. I made many friends, and the warm relationships I built with them kept me motivated. The Azerbaijani education system, along with the hospitality of the people and the vibrant social environment, greatly supported my adaptation. This positive experience encouraged me to continue my education in Azerbaijan.

What kind of experience did you gain during your studies?

I earned my Master’s degree in International Journalism and Information Policy. During my studies, I completed an internship at AZERTAC, which maintains close ties with China’s state news agency, Xinhua. This internship was a valuable opportunity, as it allowed me to gain in-depth knowledge of both Azerbaijan’s domestic news landscape and its foreign relations.

What is the focus of your current research?

I am currently researching international relations between Azerbaijan and China. My Master’s thesis explored media relations between the two countries, which inspired me to pursue further research at the doctoral level. My goal is to develop concrete proposals to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

How did you adapt to Azerbaijani culture?

When I first arrived in Azerbaijan, I experienced some culture shock due to the differences between our countries. However, I gradually adapted and found many cultural similarities. I am particularly drawn to the Novruz holiday. In China, we also celebrate the Spring Festival, and both holidays share common traditions like house cleaning, preparing sweets, and lighting bonfires. These similarities helped me integrate more easily into Azerbaijani culture.

What do you like most about Azerbaijan?

I am deeply impressed by the hospitality and sincerity of the Azerbaijani people. Their warmth made me feel at home and strengthened my connection to the country. The experiences I have gained here have been invaluable, both academically and personally.

How do you see the future of Azerbaijan-China relations?

I believe that Azerbaijan and China have great potential for expanding their relationship. There are many opportunities for cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade, and culture. Strengthening these ties will benefit both countries, and I see great potential for future joint initiatives and projects.

What are your future plans?

After returning to China, I plan to conduct further research on Azerbaijan-China relations and actively participate in projects that foster collaboration between the two countries. Additionally, I aim to promote cultural exchange and strengthen intercultural connections.
