Conference dedicated to Azerbaijanis Genocide Day

A scientific conference was held at Baku State University on the occasion of Azerbaijanis Genocide Day – March 31.

Addressing the participants, rector Elchin Babayev noted that history of genocide and terrorism of Armenians against Azerbaijanis and Turkic world has two centuries history. Massacres committed in 1918-1920 in the name of delirious idea on creation of “great Armenia” took larger scale. Extirpation of Azerbaijanis has taken place in Baku, Nakhchivan, Shamakha, Guba, Karabakh regions. As a result of massacres, many thousands of people were brutally murdered, 150 villages in Karabakh, 115 villages in Zangezur and 211 villages in Irevan province were destroyed.

An adequate political assessment to the events was given after the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the Genocide of Azerbaijanis” dated March 26, 1998 signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, when according to this Decree, March 31 was declared as the “Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis”. On January 18, 2018, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1918 genocide of the Azerbaijanis.

Members of the Milli Majlis Agil Mammadov, Elman Mammadov, Press Adviser of the Turkish Embassy Huseyn Altinalan, Dean of the Faculty of History, Professor Ibrahim Zeynalov, Associate Professor Aydin Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the Public Association "Recognition of the Realities of Genocide" Aishen Fakhraddingizi made speech at the event.
