DIRNA Project Summer School Successfully Concludes
The five-day summer school under "The “Developing Research Capacity through Institutional Repositories Network in Azerbaijan” project (DIRNA), funded by the European Union's "Erasmus+ KA2" program, has concluded at Ganja State University (GSU).
Among the Azerbaijani university partners of the summer school are Baku State University, Khazar University, Azerbaijan Technical University, the Academy of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan State University, Ganja State University, Lankaran State University, Mingachevir State University, as well as European universities such as the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), the University of L'Aquila (Italy), and Izmir Institute of Technology ().
On the first day of training, Gültekin Gürdal, the director of the library at the Izmir Institute of Technology, gave a presentation on the role of the university library in the development of education and research potential through the network of institutional repositories and shared Turkey's experience in this field. Grazia Di Bartolomeo, the director of the library at the University of L'Aquila, presented on the topic "Library Systems and Their Role in Open Access: Transformative Agreements". Anna Tozzi, who joined the training online, gave a presentation on "Open Access and Open Science: Principles and Importance", and Francesco Tarquini presented on "Open Access and Open Scientific Publications".
On the second day of the summer school, Kati Clements, a research fellow at the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, gave presentations on responsible research and innovation, reliable publishers for researchers, data management in research, open publishing ethics, copyright, and legal issues.
On the third day, other representatives of the Izmir Institute of Technology discussed topics such as choosing repository software, technical requirements and characteristics of institutional repositories, and data entry into the DSpace program.
On the fourth and fifth days, practical interactive sessions were held on the demo versions of the software used in the partner European universities. On the final day of training, participants were awarded certificates.
