Ege University Scholar Delivers Lecture on FMF at BSU
Professor Afig Bardali of Ege University (Türkiye) delivered a lecture entitled “The Geography of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF)” at the Faculty of Geography of Baku State University (BSU) as part of the events dedicated to Science Day on March 27.
Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty Professor Megsed Gojamanov emphasized the importance of studying the geographical distribution of diseases and conducting nosogeographical research in the modern era. He spoke about the scientific work of Professor Afig Bardali, an Azerbaijani scientist and physician specializing in genetic disorders, pediatrics, molecular genetics, and diagnostic genetics, who currently works in Türkiye.
In his lecture, Professor Bardali noted that FMF is a hereditary disorder primarily prevalent in the Mediterranean region and characterized by recurrent febrile episodes accompanied by inflammation. He explained that the disease results from a congenital dysfunction of the immune system, leading to an excessive inflammatory response of the body. The professor also informed participants about the geographical distribution of familial Mediterranean fever, the clinical features of its progression, and modern approaches to prevention.
