Euronews Academy Program Launched at BSU
As part of the cooperation between the Media Development Agency (MEDIA) and one of Europe’s leading news networks, Euronews, the international educational initiative Euronews Academy has officially launched at Baku State University (BSU).
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Baku, Fernando Soares, Executive Director of Euronews, stated that the program aims to equip young journalists with knowledge and skills aligned with international standards. He emphasized its role in shaping professionals capable of meeting the challenges of today’s dynamic information landscape. According to Soares, the project will significantly contribute to the production of high-quality, objective journalism that upholds ethical principles.
Natig Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of MEDIA, noted that international platforms like this play a crucial role in fostering professionalism in the media sector, advancing modern journalistic standards, and facilitating the acquisition of new skills in the digital age. He added that the educational initiative would support the development of Azerbaijan’s media environment and promote international exchange for local journalists.
In his remarks, Vugar Aliyev, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at BSU and Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, highlighted that such programs encourage the integration of young journalists into global media processes. He noted that direct engagement with international experts helps students complement their theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
The first day of the five-day program, held in a dedicated MEDIA auditorium at BSU, focused on “Digital Information Collection and Data-Based Journalism.” Participants were introduced to the fundamental principles of digital information gathering, data analysis, and evidence-based reporting by Tuba Altunkaya, a seasoned multimedia journalist from Euronews with over 14 years of international experience.
The program continues with interactive lectures, hands-on assignments, group discussions, and analysis of both written and video materials.
The Euronews Academy program will run until June 27.
