Event marking the day of genocide of Azerbaijanis held
Baku State University has held an event marking the day of genocide of Azerbaijanis. The conference's theme was "Crime against Humanity: Policy of Genocide, Historical Truths, and Facts."
In his opening remarks, the rector of BSU, Elchin Babayev, noted that the Azerbaijani people have been subjected to Armenian vandalism and terrorism over the past two hundred years: "One of the tragedies was the mass killings in March-April 1918, committed with particular cruelty by Dashnak-Bolshevik armed formations under the mandate of the Baku Council. Mass killings of Azerbaijanis, repression, expulsion, and exile from their native lands are some of the most tragic and terrifying pages in the history of the 20th century. Tens of thousands of civilians were killed solely because of their national and religious affiliation, cultural monuments, historical buildings, and mosques were destroyed. Bloody tragedies occurred in the districts of Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Karabakh, Zangezur, Mugan, Khachmaz, Nakhchivan, Lankaran, and other regions of Azerbaijan. More than 50,000 of our compatriots perished, including about 30,000 in Baku. Hundreds of our cities and villages were destroyed, including 115 in Zangezur and 211 in the Erivan Governorate."
At the conference, speeches were also delivered by the chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Party "Yeni Azerbaijan" (YAP), and member of the party's board, Arif Ragimzade, as well as by Nizami Safarov and Amina Agazade - members of the National Assembly (Milli Mejlis) and Audit Commission of YAP.
