Final Round of the “Chinese Bridge” Competition Held at Baku State University

The final stage of the 25th International “Chinese Bridge” Competition for Azerbaijan was held at Baku State University. The event was jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at BSU and the Embassy of China in Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSU Vice-Rector Shahin Panakhov emphasized the significance of hosting the international competition at Baku State University. He noted that relations between Azerbaijan and China continue to develop on the basis of mutual respect and friendship, with cooperation steadily expanding in the fields of education, science, and culture. The Vice-Rector highlighted that BSU is one of Azerbaijan’s leading higher education institutions in the study of the Chinese language and culture.

In his remarks, Shahin Panakhov also stressed that dual degree programs implemented jointly with Anhui University create new opportunities for students, enabling young people to study and gain experience in China.

Ambassador of China to Azerbaijan Lu Mei stated that Azerbaijani-Chinese friendship has deep historical roots. She noted that the Chinese language has evolved beyond being merely a means of communication and has become a bridge strengthening mutual understanding between civilizations.

The ambassador emphasized that the “Chinese Bridge” competition has been held in Azerbaijan for more than ten years and has become an important humanitarian and cultural brand. According to her, the number of people studying Chinese in Azerbaijan has now exceeded 8,000.

Lu Mei also highlighted the active role of Confucius Institutes in teaching the Chinese language and promoting Chinese culture, adding that expanding opportunities for Azerbaijani youth to study and exchange experience in China remains a priority. She expressed confidence in the continued development of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Students representing various educational institutions participated in the competition, with ten contestants advancing to the final stage. In addition to demonstrating their Chinese language proficiency, participants also showcased their talents in dance, painting, music, and acting.

Among the winners were students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at BSU: Darya Efimova won first place, Yusif Machanov took second place, while Ayan Askerli, Ayla Ismailova, and Fatima Aliyeva shared third place.

The winner of the national stage of the competition will represent Azerbaijan in the international final to be held in China.
