Foreign Student of BSU: "I Want to Be the First Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros to Azerbaijan"
Oussamaben Mohamed Ali is an international student from the Union of Comoros at Baku State University (BSU). He completed his bachelor's degree in his home country. While attending an Arabic language course in Saudi Arabia, he learned about the Heydar Aliyev Grants Program for International Education, which led him to decide to study in Azerbaijan. Currently, Oussamaben Mohamed Ali is a foundation course student at BSU, and as a next step, he plans to pursue a master’s degree at the Faculty of International Relations and Economics.
- Oussamaben, how did you decide to study at BSU?
After completing my bachelor’s degree in my country, I attended an Arabic language course in Saudi Arabia. During that time, I learned about the Heydar Aliyev Grants Program for International Education. While researching universities in Azerbaijan, I saw that BSU ranks highly. This motivated me to pursue my master's degree in international relations and economics here. Studying at BSU represents a new stage in my life, and I believe it will open up great opportunities. BSU is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Azerbaijan, providing a rich learning environment for both students and teachers. Additionally, I need to improve my Azerbaijani language skills. I am working hard to overcome the language barrier, as I believe strong communication skills are essential for my future career, particularly in diplomacy.
- How did the cultural diversity of our country affect you?
The cultural diversity here is a new experience for me. It helps me learn more about Azerbaijan and its people. Initially, adapting to a new country and culture took time, but at the university, I met very sociable and friendly people. I made friends who helped me a lot during my adaptation process.
-How have you adapted to our country?
When I first arrived in Baku, the weather was very cold. Coming from the tropical climate of the Comoros Islands, it was difficult to adjust to the chilly November temperatures. Getting used to Azerbaijani cuisine was also interesting, as the food seemed quite different from what I was used to. However, over time, I grew to really enjoy the climate and the rich flavors of Azerbaijani food. I especially like the Azerbaijani national plov, though I think it would be perfect if it were a bit spicier. My social life here is very vibrant, and I enjoy participating in various events and discussions at the university. This is one of the biggest advantages for me.
- How are your classes in the foundation course?
In the foundation course, I study alongside students from different countries and cultures. This not only broadens my academic knowledge but also helps me integrate into diverse cultures, ways of thinking, and life philosophies. Communicating with people from various backgrounds has enhanced my social skills, increased mutual understanding and respect, and helped me form new friendships.
- As far as I know, you are staying in the BSU "House of Students." Are you satisfied with the conditions there?
The conditions at the "House of Students" are very good. The comfortable living arrangements allow me to focus more on my studies. The kitchen, library, and other amenities available for leisure time offer students various opportunities. I usually cook traditional dishes from my country. We can meet with friends whenever we want and spend our free time productively. I feel comfortable and safe here, just like at home.
- What are your future goals?
I want to become a valuable specialist for my country. My goal is to strengthen international relations between the Union of Comoros and Azerbaijan. I aspire to be the first ambassador of the Union of Comoros to Azerbaijan.
