Intellectual Property and Book Culture Discussed at BSU Faculty Session
A Workshop titled "Book Culture and Intellectual Property" was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU).
The session featured a presentation by Akif Tevekkuloglu, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the Intellectual Property Agency and a distinguished alumnus of the faculty.
In his presentation, Tevekkuloglu explained the concept of intellectual property and provided in-depth information on copyright and related rights, as well as mechanisms for their enforcement and protection. He emphasized the priorities of state policy in this area, noting that Azerbaijan is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and a signatory to various international conventions and agreements on copyright and related rights. He also introduced participants to the key activities of the Intellectual Property Agency, which is responsible for implementing the state's policy in this domain.
Highlighting the broader significance of the field, the speaker noted that intellectual property is not only a legal and economic mechanism but also a vital tool for protecting ideas, culture, and creative thinking. He described book culture as a social and intellectual phenomenon that embodies a rich heritage developed in the journey from author to reader. “In this process,” he stated, “issues such as copyright protection, combating plagiarism and piracy, and safeguarding intellectual property in the digital age are of critical importance.”
