18/08/2025

An international expert meeting of the Working Group on Systems, Signals and Services (Working Group S) has officially started at Baku State University (BSU). The event is jointly organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG).

Over the course of five days, BSU will serve as a platform for leading global experts representing space agencies, government institutions, research centers, and international organizations. The meeting aims to exchange expertise and develop solutions to pressing issues in the advancement of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS).

The agenda covers a wide spectrum of topics, including interference reduction on a global scale, signal harmonization, service quality improvement, integration of time and accuracy standards, the adoption of LEO-PNT technologies, and spectrum compatibility for future lunar missions.

Experts from the United States, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Croatia, New Zealand, and several other countries are taking part, alongside representatives of UNOOSA, leading European scientific institutions, and BSU’s own research centers.

The program features parallel sessions: the first day focuses on international GNSS monitoring and assessment (IGMA) and time standardization, while subsequent sessions will address interference detection and prevention, spectrum protection, civil signal authentication, low-orbit satellite technologies, and orbital debris mitigation.

The event also includes presentations of innovative GNSS solutions, exchange of best practices among participating countries, and the adoption of new recommendations to be submitted to relevant international bodies.

Hosting such a high-level international forum highlights BSU’s growing role in the global scientific and educational community and underscores Azerbaijan’s contribution to advancing international cooperation in space technologies.
