International symposium dedicated to 650th anniversary of Nasimi was held at BSU
Baku State University (BSU) and Sivas University (Turkey) co-organized an International Symposium "Ambassadors of the Culture of the Turkic World", dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadaddin Nasimi.
Vice rector on Science and Innovation of BSU, professor Aydin Kazimzade made an opening speech and informed the audience about life and works of Nasimi, one of the prominent representatives of classical Azerbaijani poetry.
Rector of BSU Elchin Babayev said that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed an Order on "650th Anniversary of the Great Azerbaijani Poet Imadaddin Nasimi" and that 2019 was declared the Year of Nasimi in our country. A series of events dedicated to Nasimi were held in our country and beyond. He stressed the importance of the "Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Arts, and Spirituality" initiated by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva in 2018.
“Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative to plant 650,000 trees in the country in one day to mark the 650th birth anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet is commendable,” said Elchin Babayev.
The event was attended by Rector of Sivas University Alim Yildiz, Dean of the Faculty of Philology of BSU Elchin Mammadov, Education Advisor at the Turkish Embassy Nihad Buyukbash and others.
Professor Bilal Kemikli made a presentation on “Revealing the Secrets: Sufi Poems and Nasimi.”
