Master Class on Caspian Sea Level Fluctuations Held at BSU

A master class on “The Impact of Caspian Sea Level Fluctuations on Population and Coastal Settlements” was held at the Faculty of Geography of Baku State University (BSU). The session was conducted by Professor Amir Aliyev, a leading researcher at the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education.

The event was organized as part of the “Year of Urban Development and Architecture.”

Saleh Nagiyev, Head of the Department of Geography and Geography Teaching Methodology in Azerbaijan, highlighted the challenges posed by long-term fluctuations of the Caspian Sea level and stressed the importance of conducting fundamental research in this area.

Professor Aliyev provided detailed insights into the current geographic conditions of the Caspian Sea, water balance components, and long-term trends in sea level fluctuations. He explained how tectonic, climatic, and anthropogenic factors influence the marine ecosystem and the dynamics of sea level changes. Emphasizing the role of tectonic movements in shaping the seafloor, he also outlined the impact of sea level fluctuations on the settlement patterns and development of coastal communities.
