Master Class on Climate Change and Water Resources Held at BSU
A master class titled “The Impact of Global Climate Change on Water Resources” was held at the Faculty of Geography of Baku State University (BSU). The lecture was delivered by Mamed Asadov, Chief Engineer at the Institute for Design of Water and Melioration Complexes of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan.
The event was organized in connection with Science Day and World Water Day.
Opening the event, Dean Megsad Gojamanov emphasized the importance of scientific research on the impact of climate change on water resources and highlighted Asadov’s work in this field.
In his presentation, Asadov noted that about 55% of the world’s population faces severe water shortages and stressed the need for coordinated national strategies to address this challenge. He also pointed out that Azerbaijan ranks 140th globally in total water resources and 90th in per capita water availability, while the country’s average annual temperature has increased by more than 1.1°C over the past 20–25 years.
The speaker also presented data on water consumption in irrigated lands, discussed water management measures in liberated territories, and highlighted technological innovations being implemented in this area.
The discussion continued with remarks from Professor Farda Imanov and Associate Professor Irada Aliyeva, who emphasized the relevance of the topic and shared proposals for the efficient use of water resources in Azerbaijan.
