Materials Science Laboratory Opens at Baku State University
A new materials science research laboratory has been inaugurated at the Center for Excellence in Research, Development and Innovation at Baku State University (BSU).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen research infrastructure and increase youth involvement in scientific research. He noted that the newly established laboratory will enhance research capabilities in the field of chemistry and further strengthen cooperation between the university and industry.
The laboratory is outfitted with advanced equipment for the preparation and analysis of materials. Key instruments include the Bruker D8 ENDEAVOR X-ray diffractometer for powder crystal analysis and the S6 Jaguar wave-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, designed for elemental analysis of solid samples. These tools enable detailed studies of materials produced through various technologies, as well as the analysis of mineral rocks, building materials, industrial waste, and oil-based sand fractions.
As the first laboratory of its kind in the region, it will serve a wide range of scientific fields, including materials science and metallurgy, geology and mineralogy, chemistry and nanotechnology, and the building materials and cement industries. The lab is also positioned to support both academic and commercial research projects.
The facility has received all necessary operational permits and certifications from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and regular health and safety monitoring will be conducted by the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology to ensure safe working conditions.
The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Academician Dilgam Taghiyev, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and Director General of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry named after Academician M. Nagiyev, and Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli, Vice President of BP.
