Nobel Laureate Aziz Sancar Visited Baku State University
World-renowned scientist, professor of the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department at the University of North Carolina, USA, and Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry, Aziz Sancar, met with faculty and students of Baku State University (BSU).
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev considered it a great honor that the famous scientist Aziz Sancar visited BSU, the oldest and largest university in Azerbaijan. "The scientific achievements and research of Aziz Sancar are significant not only for science but for all humanity. The life and work of Aziz Sancar serve as an example for young people. It shows that hard work in education and science can be rewarded with the highest accolades in the world," noted Elchin Babayev.
In his speech, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Isa Habibbayli, said: "We are grateful to Aziz Sancar for winning this prestigious award in such a complex field as biochemistry and for conquering such a high peak. A scientist must first and foremost love his country, his homeland. In this sense, Aziz Sancar is a true patriot. Our youth should learn lessons from the life and activities of Aziz Sancar."
In turn, Professor Aziz Sancar said, "My native Azerbaijan holds a special place in my heart; I come here with great love," noting that he also considers himself a citizen of Azerbaijan.
The professor then gave a presentation on "DNA Repair and Brain Cancer".
