QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026: BSU Leads Azerbaijan by Number of Ranked Subjects
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. According to the latest rankings, Baku State University (BSU) was included for the first time in two broad subject categories and achieved representation in eight specialized subject areas.
Notably, the number of BSU’s ranked specialized subjects increased fourfold compared to the previous year. As a result, BSU has become the higher education institution representing Azerbaijan in the largest number of subject areas.
In the broad subject categories, BSU is ranked 401–500 in Natural Sciences and 501–550 in Engineering and Technology.
In specialized subject rankings, BSU achieved the following results:
- 51–100 in Petroleum Engineering
- 151–200 in Modern Languages
- 251–300 in Mathematics
- 301–350 in Law
- 401–450 in Chemical Engineering
- 401–450 in Physics and Astronomy
- 451–500 in Chemistry
- 601–650 in Computer Science and Information Systems
BSU demonstrated significant progress in several subject areas compared to last year. In Petroleum Engineering, the university advanced from the 151–175 range to 51–100, while in Mathematics it improved from 501–600 to 251–300.
For the first time, one BSU subject entered the global TOP 100, while seven subjects were ranked within the TOP 500, marking a sevenfold increase in high-ranking subject representation within a single year.
