Rector Elchin Babayev visits Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

Rector of Baku State University has visited The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). ICTP is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences that operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Elchin Babayev met with Fernando Quevedo, Director of UNESCO’s Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and professor at the University of Cambridge. Parties discussed the importance of basic sciences, especially theoretical physics and astrophysics, as well as interdisciplinary studies. During the meeting parties agreed to cooperate in training of the stuff and implementing the bilateral joint research projects, seminars, conferences, symposiums between research teams from Italy and Azerbaijan, to expand communication in the field of physics, astrophysics and biophysics.
Rector Elchin Babayev informed about the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Baku State University and invited Professor Fernando Quevedo to BSU.
Elchin Babayev participated in International Space Weather Initiative Workshop, organized by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and supported by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, co-organized and co-sponsored by the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG), the Boston College, the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP), the Institute of Navigation (ION) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The presentation of rector Elchin Babayev on "Scientific research in Azerbaijan in space weather and related areas" aroused great interest among the participants. The scientific works of Azerbaijani scientists were highly appreciated by the scientists.

The International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) is a program of international cooperation to advance space weather science by a combination of instrument deployment, analysis and interpretation of space weather data from these instruments in conjunction with other data, and the communication of the results to the public.
