Dogdurbek Chontoyev, Rector of Kyrgyz National University, delivered a lecture to students and faculty of Baku State University (BSU).

The event opened with remarks by Professor Sevinj Gadzhieva, Head of the Department of Environmental Chemistry at BSU, who provided an overview of the university’s academic programs and research in environmental protection, climate change, water resource management, and sustainable development. She emphasized that addressing environmental challenges, training specialists capable of meeting regional needs, and expanding international cooperation are among BSU’s key priorities.

Rector Chontoyev, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and Professor, then presented a lecture titled “Problems of Water Distribution between Central Asian States and Solutions.” He analyzed the historical, legal, and geopolitical aspects of interstate water allocation in Central Asia, highlighting the challenges associated with transboundary water resources and their socioeconomic implications. Particular attention was paid to the impact of climate change, glacier melt, shifting precipitation patterns, and growing water demand, all of which intensify existing hydrometeorological challenges.

The speaker emphasized the importance of effective water resource management, joint monitoring mechanisms, and enhanced information exchange among countries in the region. He also shared his views on the current environmental situation in Central Asia and the Caspian region, outlining ways to improve hydrometeorological observation systems, expand scientific research, and strengthen institutional cooperation.

The lecture concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session and discussions with students and faculty members.
