Role of youth in water management

An event on the topic "The role of youth in water management", jointly organized by the Faculty of Geology of Baku State University (BSU), OJSC "Azersu" and the Yasamal branch of the New Azerbaijan Party was held at BSU on February 23, 2022.

Farda Imanov, BSU Vice-Rector for Organization of the Educational Process and Teaching Technologies talked about the reduction of water resources due to various factors. “This is the result of increasing demand for water, reduction of water resources, and increasing pollution of water, driven by dramatic population and economic growth”, said Farda Imanov. He stressed that 67% of potable water sources of our country are formed and contaminated abroad. Farda Imanov also spoke about the water scarcity.

Gunay Huseynova, faculty member at the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Faculty of Geology said that annual freshwater withdrawals is 9 billion cubic meters. She stressed that 80% of water reserves are used for irrigation and technical purposes.

Gunay Mammadli, the leading engineer of Azersu OJSC, spoke about the projects implemented on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev to improve water supply.

The event presents videos about water resources, efficient water use, role of youth in water management.
