A conference titled “The Armenian Issue: Genocide and Deportations Committed Against Azerbaijanis in the 20th Century” was held at Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir, Türkiye. The event was jointly organized by Baku State University (BSU), the Zefer Public Association for the Support of Martyrs' Families, Dokuz Eylul University, the Izmir-Azerbaijan Association (İZAZDER), and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Türkiye.

The conference commenced with welcoming remarks by the Rector of Dokuz Eylul University, Professor Bayram Yılmaz, who underscored the importance of enhancing the brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, particularly in the spheres of education and scientific cooperation.

The event moderator, Professor Dilshen İnce Erdoğan of Dokuz Eylul University, provided an overview of the panel discussions and contextualized the theme of the conference.

Opening addresses were delivered by Sevinj Orujova, Chairperson of the Zefer Public Association for the Support of Martyrs' Families; Ofelya Salmanova, representative of the Education Development Fund and widow of the national hero Major General Polad Hashimov; and Perviz Altay, Chairman of the Board of İZAZDER. The speakers emphasized the significance of the conference in raising international awareness about the atrocities committed against Azerbaijanis during the 20th century, stressing the need to present these historical events to the global community through well-documented, evidence-based narratives.

The conference continued with panel presentations delivered by Professor Dilshen İnce Erdoğan, Associate Professor Aydin Mammadov from BSU, Professor Ahmet Toksoy of Aydın Adnan Menderes University, and Associate Professor Uğur Samancı of Dokuz Eylul University. Each provided scholarly insights into the historical, political, and social dimensions of the deportations and genocidal acts carried out against Azerbaijanis.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, offering participants an opportunity for further engagement and discussion on the topics presented.
